Saturday Morning Weigh-In

No one ever said this was going to be easy.

This morning I weighed 171 pounds, just .4 pounds less than last week. It’s a loss, although not much of one.

The eating part of this continues to go well, but I cannot wait for the weather to improve so I can get out and walk more! I got in two and a half good walks this past week (heavy rain arrived half-way through one), but it rained for most of the week. Although I didn’t take an actual walk yesterday, I did accumulate over 7,000 steps just doing my bi-weekly shopping, which kind of surprised me.

Today is supposed to be rain free so I’m planning to walk up and meet a friend for coffee at noon and then will take the long way back home for some more exercise. The cold, damp weather, not the walking, is also what’s aggravating the bursitis in my hips. I am so ready to live in a warmer climate!

I walk inside to Leslie Sansone videos, also if you just walk in the house for approx fifteen minutes, it is usually about a mile. In the evening I usually walk at least 15 minutes back and forth in the living room while watching TV. The kids think it is annoying but oh well!! Good luck with your walking!

I am going to have to check out those videos because the Wii Fit step exercises really aggravate the bursitis. And I know we are going to have a whole lot more of those rainy days!

Have you considered investing in an exercise bike? You can find them really cheap at thrift stores, Craig’s list, or neighbors’ garages! I bought my lst one for $15 from a neighbor, then sold it to another neighbor for $5 when my DIL gave me hers. I ride 15-20 minutes in the morning and if the weather hasn’t been good for walking, I do another 15-20 min. in the evening. It really makes a difference!

OK, I LOVE this idea! I love riding bikes and it doesn’t bother my hips. I cannot do genuine bike-riding these days though. I broke my knee almost 13 years ago (shattered my kneecap) and a fall from a bike could mean I would never walk again. I’m just not willing to risk it. But an exercise bike is a GREAT idea!

I’ve walked every day this week in ABQ-not hot but still very nice walking weather!!

Kris – You know I would love to be there to walk with you! We are getting so sick of the rain here. We have our Chinese exchange student this week, but won’t be able to get out with her much because of the rain.

I hear ya – both on the rain & the weight loss. :-) I’ve lost 1 pound in January, & I’ve been hitting the gym hard & eating well. It’s frustrating. As I try to remind myself, the only alternative is to push on. I’m really ready for some sunshine too. We’re tossing around a spring break trip to San Diego – I need the motivation of a warm weather vacation to look forward to.

When I was younger, a month like this one would have netted me anywhere between 7-10 pounds lost. These days though I am happy with the 2.5 pounds I did lose, and am staying on the same path.

San Diego over spring break would be lovely – so much sun! We have pictures up around the house of Hawaii – it’s what keeps us motivated and from becoming too depressed by the dreary weather.

After an accident last year which reduced my ability to exercise, I have gained more weight than I care to mention. And I am now getting to that age where it becomes harder and harder to take it off. Boo.

So I say, congrats to you on the weight loss. Losing weight, even if it’s a relatively small amount, is definitely moving in the right direction.
